Trying something new is hard. No one likes to do it because there is always the risk you may fail. But failure is a necessary ingredient of growth. If we don’t fail, we don’t move forward and if we don’t move forward, we stay in a rut – and ruts are boring.
I'm trying something new. I'm becoming a writer – well, at least I thought writing was new to me.
Recently, I discovered a bunch of creative stories I wrote when I was little. Somehow throughout school, my passion for writing came to a halt. I was told my dyslexia would hold me back because I'm disadvantaged. But you know what, I'm only disadvantaged if I think I am, so I’m giving it a crack.
The scariest part for me is trying to turn it into a career. I'm a licensed builder by trade and I've known only this since I was at school. The unwritten rule says we should stick to one career for the rest of our life. Ii disagree. You have your entire life to try new things.
Is there a passion you walked away from? Putting a career you have only known to the side and taking a leap is scary. I just went part-time to follow my dream. What are you going to do to follow yours?
